2020 : £1,000 to construct a patients waiting shelter, serving the Kachindamoto local health clinic and youth centre in Mtakataka, Dedza.

“The patient waiting shelter will cater for 80 outpatients a day and the health services provision will be not be interrupted due to any weather conditions.”

Kachindamoto Community Development Committee

The health centre is heavily used and always overcrowded. The shelter is the first chance for the health workers to make patients feel welcomed and also provides a space to educate patients and guardians. In addition, the Kachindamoto Youth Friendly Health Services programme used to meet under a tree. They can now use the shelter as a safe space to teach and learn about Sexual Reproductive Health Rights.

Despite a severe shortage of basic construction materials during the covid pandemic, the new shelter was completed in December 2020.
