The Spring Event was held online and consisted of two wonderful talks by recent grant recipients. Firstly, Andrew and Sally Feyi-Waboso presenting their work with Sight2020 performing cataract eye surgery in Malawi and then Kate Schoeller from Standing Voice presenting their programmes in Malawi supporting people living with Albinism. Both were very informative, giving members a chance to see and hear directly the impact the FOMA grants programme has within Malawian communities.
The Summer Garden Party was held on 24 July with 58 members and guests enjoying the gardens, tea and cakes. Thank you to all who made generous donations to the event and for supporting the raffle, the sale of FOMA cards, ‘Marmalade for Malawi’ and the range of FOMA chitenji aprons, shopping bags, facemasks and hand towels.
The Annual General Meeting is planned for Friday 24 September at Dorchester on Thames at 2.30pm. It will be a hybrid meeting; those who would like to attend in person may do so or join online. After the AGM there will be a short talk by Eleni Tartaris Cotton on her recently released book, Bertha the Swiss Trader’s Daughter: Love, War and Conspiracy in the Turbulent Past of Malawi – the little Jewel of Africa.
